Welcome to SkinLux!
Thank you for choosing SkinLux for your laser hair reduction treatments. To ensure the best possible experience and results, please carefully read and understand the following terms and conditions:
1. General Information
By scheduling an appointment or receiving treatment at SkinLux, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined below. These terms apply to all clients without exception.
2. What is Laser Hair Reduction Treatment?
Laser hair reduction treatment uses advanced laser technology to target and destroy hair follicles, thereby reducing hair growth. The treatment is designed to provide long-term hair reduction and can achieve up to 80% reduction in hair growth after completing the recommended course of treatments within a 24-month time frame. The correct timing for treatments is every 4-6 weeks, aligned with the hair growth cycle, to maximize effectiveness.
3. Suitability for Treatment
• Who is Suitable: Laser hair reduction treatment is suitable for individuals with a wide range of skin types and hair colors. The best candidates typically have light skin and dark hair, as the laser targets the pigment in the hair follicle. However, advancements in laser technology have made it possible to treat clients with darker skin tones effectively.
• Who is Not Suitable: Individuals with white, grey, blonde, or red hair may experience less effective results due to the lack of pigment in the hair follicles. Additionally, those with certain medical conditions or on specific medications may not be suitable candidates. See section 11. Health Conditions and Medications Not Suitable for Treatment for more details.
4. Pre-Appointment Preparation
• Client Preparation: Prior to your appointment, you will be informed about the necessary preparations. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in cancellation, loss of treatment, or decreased treatment time. For example:
• For face treatments, clients must come without makeup.
• For body treatments, clients must shave the treatment area 24 hours prior to the appointment and must not use deodorant, perfume, or body lotion.
• Shaving is the only suitable hair removal method before treatment as it does not remove the hair follicle, which the laser targets.
5. Lifestyle and Health Changes
• Informing the Practitioner: Clients must inform the practitioner of any changes in lifestyle, medications, skincare routines, or sun exposure before each treatment session. This is crucial for adjusting the treatment plan and ensuring safety.
6. Appointment Policies
• No-Show Policy: If you do not attend your appointment without providing 48 hours’ notice, you will lose the session.
• Clinic Cancellations: If SkinLux needs to cancel your appointment, we will rebook you for the earliest convenient time.
• Lateness: Arriving late will result in a shortened treatment time, which may cause certain body areas to be missed. Lateness of more than 25 minutes will result in the cancellation of the appointment and loss of the session.
7. Payment Terms
• Up-to-Date Payments: All payments must be up to date before the first treatment.
• Refund Policy: Refunds are only provided for medical reasons, which must be documented with evidence from your GP. Any agreed refunds will be calculated based on the treatments already used, and clients will receive the difference from what was used.
8. Treatment Courses
• Course Validity: All treatment courses must be used within 24 months from the date of purchase.
• Non-Transferable: Treatment courses can only be used by the individual who purchased them and cannot be shared or transferred to another person.
9. Age and Health Restrictions
• Age Limit: SkinLux does not treat clients under the age of 18.
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Treatments are not available for clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
10. Patch Test
• Free Consultation: A patch test is provided as a free consultation to assess the client’s suitability for the treatment.
11. Consent and Documentation
• Medical Documentation: In some cases, a letter from your GP may be required to proceed with the treatment.
• Relevant Consent: SkinLux will obtain relevant consent prior to the treatment.
12. Health Conditions and Medications Not Suitable for Treatment
For the safety of our clients, SkinLux does not provide laser hair reduction treatments to individuals with certain health conditions or who are taking specific medications that may increase the risk of adverse effects. These include, but are not limited to:
• Cancer: Clients undergoing cancer treatment or with a history of cancer should avoid laser treatments due to potential interactions with ongoing therapies and the possibility of skin sensitivity.
• Photosensitive Medications: Certain medications can make the skin more sensitive to light, increasing the risk of burns and other side effects. These medications include, but are not limited to:
• Antibiotics such as Tetracyclines and Fluoroquinolones
• Retinoids such as Isotretinoin (Accutane)
• Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) such as Ibuprofen and Naproxen
• Diuretics
• Anti-depressants such as Tricyclics
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Due to hormonal changes and the need to avoid potential risks to the baby, laser treatments are not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Excessive Sun Exposure: Clients with recent excessive sun exposure or tanning should delay laser treatments to avoid increased risk of burns and pigmentation changes.
• Changes in Medication: Any recent changes in medication should be reported to the practitioner. Certain new medications may interact negatively with laser treatments.
13. Supplements to Avoid During Treatment
Certain supplements can also increase photosensitivity or interfere with the laser hair reduction process. Clients should avoid the following supplements during the course of treatment:
• St. John’s Wort: Known to increase photosensitivity and may cause skin reactions during laser treatments.
• Vitamin A (in high doses): Can cause skin to become more sensitive to light.
• Echinacea: Can cause skin sensitivity and allergic reactions.
• Gingko Biloba: May increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.
• Garlic Supplements: Can increase the risk of bleeding and make the skin more sensitive to treatments.
• Ginseng: Can affect blood flow and increase photosensitivity.
• Kava Kava: May affect the skin’s reaction to laser treatments.
• Saw Palmetto: Can have hormonal effects that may interfere with treatment.
• Evening Primrose Oil: Can affect skin sensitivity and hormonal balance.
• Fish Oil/Omega-3 Supplements: Can increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
• High-dose Vitamin E: Can increase the risk of bruising and skin sensitivity.
Clients should consult with their practitioner about any supplements they are taking to ensure they are safe to continue during the laser hair reduction treatment.
14. Hair Growth Cycle and Maintenance Treatments
Laser hair reduction treatments are most effective during the active growth phase (anagen phase) of the hair cycle. The hair growth cycle consists of three stages:
• Anagen (Active Growth Phase): The phase when the hair is actively growing. Laser treatments are most effective during this stage as the hair follicle is most responsive.
• Catagen (Transitional Phase): The phase when hair growth stops, and the hair follicle begins to shrink.
• Telogen (Resting Phase): The phase when the hair is dormant and eventually falls out, making way for new hair growth.
Because not all hairs are in the same phase at the same time, multiple treatment sessions are necessary to target hair in the anagen phase. Maintenance treatments are important after completing the initial course to address any new hair growth and ensure long-term reduction.
15. Risks and Side Effects
• Informed Consent: By proceeding with the treatment, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the potential risks and side effects associated with laser hair reduction. Potential side effects and risks include, but are not limited to:
• Skin Irritation: Temporary discomfort, redness, and swelling, which typically subside within a few hours.
• Pigment Changes: Lightening or darkening of the treated skin, which is usually temporary but can be permanent.
• Scarring: Although rare, there is a risk of scarring.
• Blistering: Blisters may occur, especially if pre-treatment guidelines are not followed.
• Changes in Skin Texture: Rarely, the treated area may become crusty or develop temporary changes in texture.
• Eye Injury: Protective eyewear must be worn during treatment to prevent serious eye injury from laser exposure.
• Infection: As with any cosmetic procedure, there is a slight risk of infection if post-treatment care instructions are not followed properly.
16. Health Conditions Excluded from effectivness
Certain health conditions may affect the results of laser hair reduction treatments . These conditions include, but are not limited to:
• Hirsutism: Excessive hair growth due to hormonal imbalances.
• Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A condition that can cause excessive hair growth due to hormonal changes.
